This Mother Meditation is one of many Tibetan Buddhist practices that's designed to help us build our capacity for compassion.
Why should we increase our capacity for compassion?
All of us can benefit from practices geared towards opening our hearts.
When we place ourselves first, we reinforce the mistaken notion that we are separate from others, and that kind of happiness is limited. All of our happiness in whole comes not from worrying about me and mine, but from caring for others in conjunction.
By placing care for others first, we remember that all beings are connected, and that contentment, love and happiness are available in abundance.
Specifically, the Mother Meditation asks us to view each being in the world as someone who once gave us infinite love and care so we may strive to repay their kindness by being kind in turn.
Reflection Questions:
1) Describe in general what your meditation was like.
2) Where in your body did you feel resistance during the meditation?
3) Where in your body did you feel compassion during the meditation?
4) Were you able to recall anyone you've met as once being your mother?
5) Was it easier to feel compassion for some more than others?
6) Is everyone worthy of compassion?
7) When are you unhappy, who is it that you are thinking about?
8) When you are the most happy, who is it that you are thinking about?
9) Have you noticed any shift in your interactions with other (or yourself) after this practice?
10) How might the way you treat people change the way in which they act towards you?
11) What would your world look like i you practice compassion for everyone at all times?

This challenge offers weekly 60 minute all-levels focused yoga flows breaking down the basics/building the foundation of our Sun Salutation that you can join live via Zoom or utilize the recording for your enjoyment to do at your own pace and in your own time!
The pinnacle of our journey together awaits at the Winter Solstice, where we'll end with a celebration featuring 108 Sun Salutations ✨
But I’ll let you in on a little secret, the goal of this challenge is not reaching 108 in the end..
I’ve created this series with two primary intentions:
[One:] help strengthen the muscles your body uses within a Sun Salutation while offering students modifications, variations and a chance for a breakdown of the postures that make up this traditional sequence so you feel confident & prepared for the challenge of tackling 108 at the end of our 8 classes together to honor this yogic tradition - This will be your opportunity to put your newfound strength and wisdom to the test from our time together, embracing the transformative essence of this ancient practice.
[Two:] provide a supportive environment/additional resources to leave you with a profound sense of accomplishment and a more profound connection to your mindful embodiment practices
Whether you're a seasoned yogi or just starting your practice, this challenge will inspire you to embrace the change of the seasons with intention thru the tradition of 108 and find the light within, even during the darkest times 🌟
