The European Magnitsky Act must sanction corruption

Описание: Corruption has a devastating far-reaching effect: deprives citizens from human rights-related goods and services and creates security and malign interference threats to the countries where the plundered funds are directed. The European Magnitsky Act adopted in December 2020 is a dedicated effort of the EU to boost its capacities in addressing grave human rights violations around the world, which needs to be further strengthened by adding corruption among sanctioned crimes. Fighting the human rights violations requires an international cooperation among likeminded democracies, this also includes a unified approach and legal instruments. In April 2021, the United Kingdom has issued the Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions Regulations and imposed sanctions to those involved in corruption frauds in Russia, South Sudan, South Africa and Latin America, setting an example to follow.
The event is a part of organizing MEPs efforts to raise awareness about the corruption-caused human rights violations around the world and a continuous call upon the EU and Member States leadership to sanction corruption by the European Magnitsky Act.
