Join us for the first session of a two-part series unpacking key insights from the CSIPM, and what it means for food system governance in Australia.
The Agroecology & Food Sovereignty Alliance (AFSA) is active across some of the most influential global food-governance spaces, from the International Seed Treaty to La Vía Campesina, and the Civil Society and Indigenous Peoples Mechanism (CSIPM). But what does this international engagement actually mean for food system transformation here in Australia?
Join us for the first instalment of a two-part Solidarity Session series, Rome to Home, where we break down what happened at the 2025 Committee on World Food Security (CFS) in Rome, and why it matters for farmers, advocates, and organisers back on home soil.
This session offers a genuine two-way exchange:
Home-to-Rome: sharing Australian wins, challenges, and priorities with global partners.
Rome-to-Home: translating global policy shifts, frameworks, and political dynamics back into our domestic movement.
You’ll learn:
What CSIPM is, how it works, and why AFSA shows up in this global forum
Insights from regions facing similar structural challenges to Australia
Key global policy developments that could shape Australian food sovereignty and advocacy work
Speakers:
-Chair: Ellen Johnson, AFSA Health WG Chair; PhD Candidate, Right to Food (University of Sydney)
--Dr Rob Arcidiacono, AFSA National Committee; CSIPM Australasian CC Member
-Lisa Shahin, CSIPM West Asia CC Member (Jordan) (TBC)
AFSA is led and run by its members, supported by one part-time staff and a volunteer National Committee. To support our work and participate in driving the food sovereignty movement, become a member or make a donation!
