How we should be doing lifecycle marketing

Nobody seems to care about retention marketing because marketers are very rarely, if ever, incentivized to drive revenue from existing customers. This goes against the conventional wisdom that it's "cheaper to retain than to acquire". It's also that "account expansion" is owned by Account Managers...who sit in the sales team, or customer success team (at best).
How many of you marketers have OKRs/ KPIs related to account expansion or retention? I don't know of any that do.
So that's why there's the mindset of not giving a flying damn about customers after they have made the initial purchase.
