In this episode, I set out to check one of my trail cameras and scout for new spots to look for rattlesnakes. The camera sits on a small cave that’s a hot spot for desert wildlife—rattlesnakes, Gila monsters, skunks, and even desert tortoises use it as a safe burrow during the heat of the day.
While hiking , I came across a dead kangaroo rat—freshly envenomated by a rattlesnake. Sure enough, the rattlesnake was already on the trail, tracking its meal. I set up a camera and backed off, letting the rattlesnake eat undisturbed so we could watch this natural event unfold.
