I have been trying to see Refused in concert for the last twenty years and something always went wrong. For example, I have a Deftones video posted on my channel from back in 2016 where Refused was supposed to open for them.
They did not.
Fortunately, the curse has been broken and I was finally able to see them live in all their Swedish glory!
The opening bands for the show were:
Deaf Club: I had never heard of them but they did a fantastic job. If you like punk music, like real dirty, loud, fast, screaming, mayhem punk music... you will probably really like these guys. One of the best opening bands I have ever seen.
Quicksand: Never really listened to these guys either but I had heard of them. First couple of songs were kinda meh, but then they really picked it up and brought it home for the rest of the show. Felt like if Jane's addiction fused with the bass from old Tool. Pretty cool.
Which brings us to Refused.
Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.
I did my best to keep a steady hand so the video wasn't all over the place but, I was also head banging and at one point helped move some stuff out of the way so a mom in the crowd below could boost her young daughter up on the railing so she could see the show.
If you notice any mistakes / omissions here please let me know and I will try to correct them if I can.
Big shout out to: The family that brought their young kids to the show so that they could see what good music is supposed to look like! I hope they had a blast.
Another big shout out to the mosh pit. People in the mid-west and east coast take for granted the glory that is an actual pit. In California, usually you get three drunk guys bumping into each other and that is the "pit" for the show. This was without a doubt the best effort I have ever seen at a San Diego show. Round of Applause for all of you in the pit, impressive!
Lastly, if you have something negative to say whether it be about the politics, my camera work, literally anything...
No one cares.
I stood as still as possible for an hour and a half to record this. My arms were burning after the show. I also spent several hours to make this as good as possible for everyone. I had to convert the video using handbrake to get it to load up in my old ass Adobe Premiere.
I then added in text overlays for each song on top of having to verify each song since the online setlists were completely wrong. I also added hyperlinks so that you can easily listen to whichever song you want. And as always, I absolutely refused to add any type of monetization commercials in this video.
So if after all of that you feel the need to complain about something.
Well...
Eat a dick.
