➡️ I get a LOT of requests lately, but I've noticed that any request for Refused comes with sentiments like "get ready" and "be warned", and I think I understand why. Apparently, the band called it quits in 1998 shortly after the release of "The Shape of Punk to Come", and then the album quickly garnered a cult following. "The Deadly Rhythm" completely pulled the rug out from under me with deep rhythmic motifs, atonal transitions, balls-to-the-wall intensity, and then some sort of...fever-dream jazz breakdown. I discuss some of the music theory behind the composition (what I was able to catch, anyway...), the deep-rooted hemiola between the riffs and the main groove, a breakdown of the approaches behind the bass parts, and much more!
