Selected Indian Army personnel are trained at HAWS to become mountain warriors. In the initial training, soldiers have to stay in the forest at survival top which is at a height of 10,500 feet. They are trained for survival instincts in bad weather conditions, freezing temperature and low level of oxygen.

Some of the highest battlefields like Siachen can be unforgiving even for the toughest soldiers; where low oxygen level and sub-zero temperatures make it one of the most hostile places to live in, let alone fight. At HAWS Gulmarg which is situated close to 9,000 feet above sea level, Indian Army men train to survive and fight in the world’s highest battleground at 20,000 feet.
