Irish (Gaeilge)
Irish, also known as Gaeilge, is a Celtic language native to Ireland. It is one of the Goidelic languages, along with Scottish Gaelic and Manx. Irish has a rich literary tradition dating back to the early medieval period, with the earliest manuscripts written in Ogham script. It is an official language of Ireland and the European Union, and efforts to revitalize the language include mandatory education in schools and a growing presence in media. Irish is spoken predominantly in Gaeltacht regions, though learners and speakers exist across the island and beyond.

Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig)
Scottish Gaelic, or Gàidhlig, is a Goidelic language native to Scotland, particularly in the Highlands and Islands. It shares roots with Irish and Manx, evolving as Scots migrated from Ireland to Scotland. The language boasts a strong oral and musical tradition, including sean-nós singing and storytelling. Despite declining numbers of native speakers, efforts to preserve Gaelic include immersion schools, media broadcasting, and official recognition under Scotland’s Gaelic Language Act.
