Online LIMSC Post Conference Tour Leiden - 10 City Parks

Описание: On Friday the 12th and Saturday the 13th of March 2021 the Leiden International (Bio)Medical Student Conference (LIMSC) will take place online for the very first time. Originally planned, we would welcome more than 700 students at the Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC), host of LIMSC, but instead we created a safe, free and comfortable way for you to connect with your fellows all over the world. Since the 12th LIMSC Organising Committee would still like to show you the beautiful city of Leiden, we have recorded this special online Post Conference Tour for you!

M.F.L.S. Board Member Claire, welcomes you in the Van der Werfpark. This park is named after Pieter Adriaansz Van der Werff, mayor during the Eighty Years War. To elaborate this further we have to go back in time a little, to the 16th century to be precise. Spanish forces besieged the city twice. On May 26th 1574 – the start of the second siege – the city was not prepared adequately for another prolonged siege. Soon, Leiden fell due to hunger and the plague, killing a third of the population a total of 18.000 people. On the 3rd of October, a relief fleet entered the city with a large stock of food and other supplies for the starving population, Leiden had been saved. Each year on the 2nd and 3rd of October, Leiden draws huge crowds to celebrate the relief of the city in 1574 – called Leiden’s ontzet.
Besides Van Der Werf, Leiden also has many more city parks!
