LIMSC x LUMC series - 2 Interview with obstetrician gynaecologist Thomas van den Akker

For the second episode of the series, Prof. Dr. Thomas van den Akker was willing to give an interview! He works as an obstetrician gynaecologist at the LUMC and is a member of the Advisory Committee of LIMSC, which assists in building the best possible scientific programme for our participants. Besides this, Thomas is enthusiastically involved in the education of young doctors. In this respect, Prof. Dr. van den Akker will also provide the workshop “Global Health Challenges” together with his colleague Dr. Tarek Meguid during Online LIMSC on the 12th of March.
Before starting as a gynaecologist, Thomas worked as a doctor in Malawi, he graduated from the VUmc in Amsterdam with his thesis ‘Medical mirrors: maternal care in a Malawian district’. He is committed to reducing the inequality of maternal care worldwide and therefore takes a place on the board of the Working Party for International Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health.
