It's good to be back speedrunning Spider-Man 2 PSP for a new series of minute barriers to break!
This time it's Any% Hard.
I finally did it, Sub 30! Hard was the last difficulty I wanted to achieve sub 30. There was a time I thought sub 30 was not even possible.
It's been almost 3 years since I set my previous PB. Back then, Sub 31 was achievable but quite difficult due to the known strats at the time. Fortunately, I found a lot of new improvements: New routes, faster movements and new consistent setups.
The biggest improvements are the following:
A new consistent combo againt Vulture, it is possible to end phase 1 in only 2 cycles consistently by using the combo (B)BX BBX BBX twice, with two backup combos (BBXà. It saved 17 seconds.
A new route in Smash and Grab saves up to 15 seconds: Instead of killing the first group of guys immediately, I bring both key cards to the banker as quickly as possible. Then I kill them while the banker is running towards the first vault. To be worth it, this route requires a very fast backtrack through the vent and very fast kills.
A new Shocker strat: Instead of trying to punch him in the air after a XXB combo, I swing and attack him in the air with web until he dies. This strat is more consistent for Normal and Hard difficulties.
Overall better L+R movements, camera angle practice, and cycle knowledge.
About this run:
My goal was Sub 30. A achieved Sub 31 shortly before this run.
Very decent run with all the new improvements.
Biggest time losses:
20s against Rhino Round 2. He trolled me with a spiked charge, I lost shock zones because of that. I never had such a bad fight against him.
8s in Smash and Grab, it took me too long to kill the guys and I messed up with my camera angle.
8s in Final Experiment, I choked on some movements.
5s in Bombs Away.
Retimed 29:51.8x, so it's a 29:51 run.
I seriously doubt that Sub 29 is possible with the current strats. I know that my gold segments aren't fully optimal yet, but still. Sub 29 would be the last minute barrier for Hard difficulty.
