After a cancellation and postponement due to coronavirus, the Boston Marathon was finally held on October 11. 20,000 entrants took to the streets of Beantown hoping for personal bests and almost 20,000 more competed virtually, making it the largest Boston Marathon field ever.

Here are the highlights from the 125th Boston Marathon, including men’s and women’s winners.

Benson Kipruto of Kenya won the men’s race in 2:09:51. 2016 champion Lemi Berhanu edged Jemal Yimer for second place.

Colin Bennie was the top American, finishing seventh in 2:11:26.

American CJ Albertson was 10th in 2:11:44. Albertson had led the first 20 miles of the race, including a 2:13 lead at the half.

Kenyan Diana Kipyogei won the women’s race in 2:24:45. Edna Kiplagat, 41, finished in second for her third appearance on the Boston podium. Mary Ngugi was third in 2:25:20. Nell Rojas (6th, 2:27:12) was the top American.

Marcel Hug won the men’s pushrim race in 1:18:11, his fifth Boston victory. Manuela Schar (1:35:21) took the women’s race for the third time.
