According to police sources, the accused Nishan Singh opened fire on the police team during a recovery and identification operation. In retaliatory firing by the police, Nishan Singh was shot in the leg, after which he was overpowered and taken into custody.

Police revealed that Nishan Singh had been arrested earlier today from Amritsar by Batala Police. During the identification process, he allegedly tried to mislead the police and escape, leading to the encounter.

This accused is linked to a recent firing incident at a medical store in Dera Baba Nanak, where shots were fired at the shop owner a few days ago. Following this encounter, all four involved youths have been arrested by the police.

Senior police officials, including the DIG Border Range, shared important details with the media, stating that further investigations are underway and more revelations are expected in this case.

The incident has created panic in the area, while police presence has been intensified to maintain law and order.
