It is “inconceivable" the WA Liberals will win the election and Premier Mark McGowan “deserves” to be re-elected, according to former Liberal government minister Ian Campbell.
Mr Campbell now works in the corporate sector and told Sky News the Labor government has been good for Western Australia.
“They have been - in my experience - incredibly open, they have been assessable, they have a very can-do attitude, they’re very pro getting stuff done in this state,” he said.
Mr Campbell acknowledged Labor’s management of the pandemic has been popular despite February’s snap-lockdown costing hundreds of millions of dollars.
“I thought it was an overaction, but my thoughts are totally irrelevant because most West Australians would disagree with me,” he said.
This comes after recent polls suggested WA Labor is heading towards its biggest ever state election victory - leading Liberal leader Zak Kirkup to dramatically concede his party cannot win.
“The Liberal Party will bounce back from this - they just need to keep doing the hard yards,” Mr Campbell said.
