Luís Costa (1879–1960) lived during the late Romantic and Impressionist eras and was an active Portuguese composer, pianist, and educator in the first half of the twentieth century.
“Roda o vento nas searas” (“The Wind Turns in the Wheat Fields”), Op. 6, No. 4, is a concise yet evocative piano piece drawn from Costa’s early set of character pieces. The work reflects an Impressionist sensitivity to color and motion, focusing on the creation of a poetic soundscape in which the music is closely intertwined with the natural imagery suggested by its title.
