KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
Flag carrier of Holland and headquartered in Amstelveen with hub at Schiphol.
Started in 1919 it is the oldest operating airline in the world.

KLM Aisa is a wholly owned subsidiary registered in Taiwan and established in 1995 to operate flights to Taipei without affecting KLM’s operations in China. Doesn’t have the flag of the Netherlands and the crown logo is replaced with the Asia wordmark. A/C are sometimes used to service other parts of the KLM network apart from the Amsterdam to Taipei route.

In 1919 and aviator names Albert Plesman sponsored and aviation exhibition in Amsterdam, over a half a million people attended and as a result several commercial interests decided to establish a Dutch airline which Plesman was nominated to head. Later in 1919 Queen Wilhelmina awarded the airline with the Royal predicate. On October 7th, 1919 KLM was founded with Plesman as its first administrator and director. The first flight was from London to Amsterdam on May 17th, 1920.

First intercontinental flight was in 1924 with a destination in Jakarta.

In February of 1971 KLM introduced the 747-200 as its first widebody airliner. In March of that year KLM also opened its current headquarters in Amstelveen. In 1975 KLM introduced the 747 Combi to deal with overcapacity. In 1983 KLM began converting some of their 747-200’s to the stretched upper deck version and also added the 747-300. The 747-400 was introduced in 1989.

KLM began a relationship with Northwest Airlines and later a partnership with Air France in 2003 and joined the SkyTeam Alliance in 2004.
