During a press conference at Banga Bhawan in New Delhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed the media in the presence of alleged victims of the SIR process. She said that for the sake of electoral gains, the state could not deprive its youth and citizens of their rights. She questioned whether what was unfolding could be termed an “incident” and asked why such events were being allowed to happen. Banerjee alleged that over the past five years, people had been suffering silently.
