This wasn’t a normal training week.
For the first time, I stepped into a lab and did a full body composition test, lactate threshold testing, and a VO₂ max test — something I’d never done before as a recreational runner in my 40s.
In this episode, I share what that week actually felt like alongside work, family life, and regular training. The nerves before testing, the fatigue afterwards, and the quiet realisation that some of my “easy” running hasn’t been as easy as I thought.
This isn’t about chasing numbers or optimising everything.
It’s about learning where I am right now, so I can keep running for years to come.
If you’re a midlife runner trying to improve without burning out, breaking down, or turning your hobby into pressure — you’ll probably recognise a lot of this.
