Kevtris is a Tetris [Тетрис] clone and homebrew available for ColecoVision. It was made by Kevin Horton and it was published in 1996, 11 years out of scope. ColecoVision production ceased in 1985 amidst the global Videogame Crash (1983-1985) which resulted in liquidation of software and paripherals for Atari 2600 (Hasbro), Intellivision (Mattel), ColecoVision (Coleco), Vectrex (Milton-Bradley), and Odyssey II (Philips-Magnavox).
Kevtris is one of the best Tetris clones out there. The game is available as a CV rom and it was also limited to 100 physical cartridges.
Kevin Horton is an American electrical engineer known for his work with Analogue (since 2015) as well as MAME. Analogue is a company that builds retro-compatible hardware to play 4th generation cartridges by use of chipsets and not with software. There was support for various home consoles and handhelds to be played with factory produced rom cartridges once found in retail stores, and also via SD input. The hardware has upscaled HD output as well as analog options.
ABOUT TETRIS, AND IT'S INFLUENCE AND LEGACY:
Tetris was created in 1985 by Alexey Pajitnov, a Soviet software engineer. It was originally released for DOS, and over the next 40 years would have over 200 variants available on over 65 different platforms.
Tetris is the 2nd best-selling videogame of all-time with over a half a billion units sold, many of which are for mobile devices. Tetris was bundled with Gameboy and two versions were available for the NES.
Tetris was developed as a product of Soviet state media. Pajitnov programmed Tetris using Pascal on an Elektronika 60 and adapted it to IBM PC with the assistance of Dmitry Pavlovsky and Vadim Gerasimov.
Very long story short -- with Henk Rogers involved -- Tetris was licensed by Elektronorgtechnica (ELORG) to Nintendo of America. In 1989 it was bundled with the Gameboy and that version of Tetris was (1) the best-selling, and (2) one of the best-selling videogames of all-time.
Years of regret plagued Alexey Pajitnov as he had not profited from his Tetris creation. However in 1996 intellectual property rights reverted back to Pajitnov, and with that he and Henk Rogers formed an electronics company as well as a company to manage future licensing of Tetris and everybody lived happily ever after.
Tetris is one of the most influential videogames ever made and has sparked an entire puzzle genre, omnipresent in 5 decades. It is a casual game that can be played in short bursts, and it is a game that hosts global competition. It has been the subject of a critically acclaimed documentary as well as a Hollywood movie.
ABOUT COLECOVISION:
ColecoVision debuted in 1982 and was regarded as the strongest home console on the market. More powerful than the Atari 2600 and with ported arcade games more polished than the Intellivision, Coleco's home videogame console operated on a version of BASIC. The machine was bundled with Donkey Kong.
ColecoVision had several peripherals available (called expansion modules) which included a trackball, steering wheel, and an add-on with support for Atari 2600 cartridges. Optional "Super Action Controllers" were also available.
Some popular arcade ports were Venture, Mousetrap, Donkey Kong Jr, Frenzy, Carnival, Time Pilot, Looping, Cosmic Avenger, Defender, and Montezuma's Revenge. Some major publishers were Nintendo, SEGA, Sierra, Stern, Atarisoft, Coleco, CBS, Parker Brothers, Epyx, and Activision.
Homebrew culture for Coleco has always been strong. There are always new projects being developed, usually as a labor of love by fanatics who still use the platform to build on. Limited copies of various homebrew and vaporware cartridges have been made available from time to time over the years, including boxes and instruction manuals designed to a standard of the original retail specification.
