In a major crackdown on alleged corruption, the Odisha Vigilance recovered over ₹2 crore in cash from Baikuntha Nath Sarangi, a Chief Engineer with the state’s Rural Works division. The raid was conducted on Friday across multiple locations linked to him.
🪟 Cash Thrown Out of Flat Window!
As officials reached his Bhubaneswar flat, Sarangi reportedly panicked and began throwing bundles of ₹500 notes out of his window. Witnesses and officials recovered the tossed cash, which is now part of the case evidence.
🏠 Over ₹2.1 Crore Cash Found!
Of the total cash seized, ₹1 crore was recovered from his Bhubaneswar flat, and ₹1.1 crore was found at his residence in Angul. Officials said the searches were still ongoing and more assets may be unearthed.
🔍 Owns Multiple Properties!
Raids were carried out at several locations: a two-storey house in Angul’s Karadagadia, flats in Bhubaneswar, Pipli, and Siula (Puri district), and his ancestral home. Officials also searched his office at the Chief Engineer’s department in Bhubaneswar.
📂 Case of Disproportionate Assets!
Sarangi is being investigated for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The raids were conducted under search warrants issued by the Special Vigilance Judge in Angul.
