Many people who have not been to Tibet are curious about what we eat when living in such a highland.
Our diet contains both foods unique to the Tibetan plateau, such as tsampa made from barley, yak meat, and butter tea, as well as a growing number of cuisines from other regions.
However, there is one thing that most Tibetans do not eat.
That is fish.
Why don't Tibetans eat fish? Today I will take you to see the answer of the local Tibetans in Lhasa.
I randomly interviewed some locals on the street in Lhasa city, both men and women, old and young, and none of them would eat fish.
We believe every single fish in Tibet is under the blessing of holy Mount Kailash. And they are too small that not worth being eaten by one person. Since fish has many lives, killing a fish is a very big sin. So we didn't have the habit of eating fish since we were young.
In addition to this, I also followed a Tibetan friend I met at the fish market and went to the river in Lhalu Wetland behind the Potala Palace to release fish.
