Starting from the picturesque ski resort of Kranjska Gora we were in for an epic days cycling up and over the Vrsic Pass.
The road gradually tilts upward toward the legendary Vršič Pass — the highest mountain pass in Slovenia, rising to over 1,600 meters. In terms of actual elevation gain, this is 800 metre or 2600 ft climb from Kranjska Gora.
The climb and descent entails Fifty serpentine switchbacks which carve their way into the limestone giants of the Julian Alps.
Keep an eye out for the cobblestones of history, laid a century ago by Russian prisoners during the First World War, in order to give better traction on the hairpins, not so comfortable on a bike though.
