The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) says it has to date investigated 5 467 COVID-19 contracts valued at R14.3 billion which were awarded to just over 3 000 service providers across all spheres of government. Of that number, 4 549 contracts have been finalized, with 62% of them found to have been irregular. The unit has recovered over R34 million in assets and money, while R551 million still needs to be recovered. This report does not include details of ongoing investigations that were not included after a specific timeline was set.
