In this powerful and practical episode, Minister Timothy Thomas teaches that in order for husbands and wives to fulfill God’s design for marriage, both must be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:25 commands husbands to “love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it.” But before God ever told husbands to love unconditionally, He gave the answer in verse 18: “Be filled with the Spirit.” A husband cannot love with agapē love unless he is saved, surrendered, and continually determined to be guided by the Spirit of God. Likewise, a wife cannot walk in biblical submission without relying on the Holy Ghost. Marriage only functions as God intended when both husband and wife are ruled—not by emotion, not by flesh—but by the Spirit.

Minister Thomas highlights two guiding principles:

1) Husbands: Walk in Love
A husband may say, “I’m being disrespected.” But the Word teaches him to go to God first. Ephesians 5:19–20 instructs us to speak to ourselves in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs—singing and making melody in our hearts to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things. A husband must talk to God until his heart is in the right place. This keeps him out of the flesh and positions him to love his wife the way Christ loves the church.

2) Wives: Walk in Respect
A wife may say, “I’m not being loved or getting attention.” But she must do the same thing the husband must do—go to God. Ephesians 5:19–20 applies to her as well. She must talk to God and get her heart in the right place so she can walk in respect in the fear of God. Respect is not based on emotion; it is empowered by the Spirit.

We cannot let the flesh dominate our marriage. We must let the Spirit rule and dominate our relationship. We need God’s Spirit to handle disagreements, arguments, misunderstandings, and difficult situations. The enemy enters when we focus on the problem instead of allowing the Spirit to guide us to a resolution. Spirit‑filled couples fight less with each other and fight more for each other.

Minister Thomas leaves us with a prescription from Heaven:

“My doctor, Jesus, woke me up this morning and told me to tell you to take two pills:
Take a pill of forgiveness and a pill of faith—knowing He is there.
Let them work, and call Him in the morning!”

Many marriages struggle because forgiveness is withheld and faith is forgotten. But God’s prescription requires action. When we forgive and trust Him, the medicine works.
