Tourism Promotion Seminar Highlights Directorate of Tourism’s Vision & “Jambooriyat” for Unified Jammu Tourism
Jammu: The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu*, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, reinforced its commitment to sustainable and inclusive tourism development during a *Tourism Promotion Seminar & Panel Discussion themed “Exploring Tourism Potential of Jammu Region – Promoting Sustainable Tourism, Economic Growth & Employment.” The programme strongly projected *Jambooriyat*—a vision of unity and regional cohesion—as a strategic approach to unlock Jammu province’s vast yet underexplored tourism potential.
Held at KC Residency, Jammu*, the seminar brought together tourism officials, academicians, environmentalists, media professionals, and social stakeholders, creating a dynamic platform for dialogue on policy, sustainability, and grassroots tourism development. *(The event was coordinated by social activist Nazakat Choudhary in collaboration with the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu.)
The event was graced by Savita Chouhan, Deputy Director Tourism (Publicity) as *Chief Guest*, alongside *KAS officer Pankaj Sasan and JKES officer Mamta Sharma*, reflecting strong administrative support for tourism-led growth in the region.
A key highlight of the seminar was the in-depth panel discussion focusing on *district-centric tourism planning, sustainability, and regional integration*.
Dr Nidhi Pathania emphasized the concept of “Different District, Different Tourism,” advocating customized tourism models for each district to promote local culture, heritage, and livelihood opportunities.
Addressing environmental sustainability, *Chinmoy Maharana*, Assistant Professor, University of Jammu, linked tourism growth with the *Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)*, stressing biodiversity conservation and eco-sensitive tourism practices as essential pillars of long-term development.
The concept of “Jambooriyat” emerged as the central ideological framework of the seminar. Er Shubham Kotwal*, President, All Digital and Print Media Association, described *Jambooriyat as a unifying identity for Jammu Province—transcending regional divisions and promoting collective tourism branding. He highlighted that Jambooriyat complements Kashmiriyat and draws inspiration from academic leadership and former tourism administrators, positioning it as a people-driven movement aligned with the Directorate of Tourism’s inclusive vision.
Dr Swati Sharma*, social activist and researcher, underscored the role of *local communities as custodians of tourism*, urging citizens to become *brand ambassadors by fostering a strong connection between people, culture, and nature.
In her address, Deputy Director Tourism Savita Chouhan lauded the Jambooriyat initiative and reiterated the Directorate of Tourism’s proactive efforts to promote year-round tourism. She also highlighted upcoming flagship events such as *Lohri celebrations, the Winter Carnival, and the Jammu Run*, aimed at energising winter tourism and increasing tourist footfall in the Jammu region.
Several prominent personalities, including *Manoj Gupta, Akshi Billawria, Vishal Pumba*, and others, were present and contributed to the discussions, strengthening collaboration between government, civil society, and media.
The seminar concluded with the distribution of medals and certificates to panelists and stakeholders in recognition of their contributions to tourism promotion and community development. The organisers noted that the deliberations and ideas shared during the event would significantly aid the Directorate of Tourism’s mission to achieve sustainable tourism growth, economic development, and employment generation across Jammu Province.
