Empowering Transitions: “Rethinking how we treat older adults.”
Presented by Anita Johnson
As we journey through life, aging brings a series of transitions that can profoundly impact our mental health. This presentation will explore the relationship between major life transitions, such as retirement, caregiving responsibilities, loss, and physical decline, and their effects on mental well-being in older adults. We will examine how these transitions, while often seen as inevitable, can be sources of stress, anxiety, and depression. Additionally, the presentation will highlight the importance of resilience, coping strategies, and social support systems in maintaining mental health during these life stages. By understanding the psychological challenges of aging and providing tools to navigate these transitions, we can foster healthier aging experiences. This session will provide valuable insights into the complex interplay between aging and mental health, empowering individuals, caregivers, and healthcare providers to better support older adults in maintaining emotional well-being as they age.
