Self fulfillment comes from understanding the human being as made in the image of God. Thus, the human is relational, being fulfilled in relation to God and to other human beings. Fulfillment comes from acting in love toward God with all the self and loving others as one self. Humans also are aware of time and can project into the future. Being fulfilled means having the hope that our actions will have positive consequences and ultimately that our lives extend beyond this earthly time. Christ's call for his disciples to deny themselves, does not exclude the desire for self-development but actually leads to self-fulfillment as being like Christ is what is meant by self-fulfillment.
