Resistance Nest ‘Hafen’ (‘Harbour’ in English) was located in and around the quaint harbour in the British Channel Island of Alderney, and commanded the western end of Braye Bay and the beach.
It comprised a Type 680 bunker, a 7.5cm Pak 40 anti-tank gun and a smaller 4.7cm Pak 36(t) located on the beach. The latter was emplaced in a reinforced field order bunker, while the former was camouflaged as a house.
Adjacent to the 4.7cm was a machine gun pillbox and the beach was lined with tetroid anti-tank obstacles and barbed wire.
Douglas Quay boasted an anti-aircraft machine gun and a tank turret mounted in a Tobruk pit. german harbour guard boats use the quays.
Other German works in this position were the Jetty extension, a large air defence shelter built in the angle of the old commercial quay and a small naval wireless bunker, now underneath the post-war Harbour Office. The latter complex contained a small personnel shelter, a machine gun position and a small concrete observation dome; on top was a 20mm anti-aircraft gun.
Nearby to the harbour was the house ‘Peacehaven’, used as the Naval Headquaters, and where the German surrender was signed
The majority of these positions are in this video.
