The turning point in Foconi's career came during the 2016 Olympics, when he was not selected for the national team. While watching his friend Daniele Garozzo winning Olympic gold, he found a huge desire to join his friend. Inspired by friend's success, he began to work even harder and tried to learn from every bout he saw. As a result, for the last 4 seasons Foconi has remained the first place in the world ranking and is the main candidate for a medal at the next Olympics.
