Dmitry went through difficult circumstances in his professional career, when in 2012 doctors forbade him to play sports because of digestive problems. Unable to compete at a high level, he left for almost two years to work as a children's coach at a fencing club in the United States. Dmitry returned to fencing as an athlete in 2014 and after 2 years of hard work won his first gold medal at the World Fencing Championships in St. Petersburg in 2016. In the 2017-2018 season, in the three tournaments leading up to the World Championships, he lost by just one touch, 14-15. In Paris, he lost to American Race Imboden, then twice, first in the United States and then in Russia, to Olympic champion Daniele Garozzo. However, at the end of that season he took the gold medal at the World Championships in Leipzig, thus showing his indestructible character and willpower!
