In this third part of the presentation, Marco Piga focuses on partial discharge monitoring.
According to the IEC standards, partial discharge is a localized electrical discharge that only partially bridges the insulation between conductors, and which can or cannot occur adjacent to a conductor.
There are several diagnostic methods to detect defects on a GIS: optical, mechanical and electrical. For continuous monitoring, we are focusing on the Ultra High Frequency method, that has shown multipole benefits in terms of sensitivity and reliability.
We will go then through each step of the Measurement Chain: detection, acquisition, processing, and alarming and visualization.
