The leader of the government in the Senate, Penny Wong, introduced the censure motion, saying what Hanson pulled was 'immature and shameless'. Wong said her friend's seven year old daughter had asked after hearing of Hanson's stunt, 'if 'all christians hate muslims'. Wong added, 'That summarised where we find ourselves and we see it again'. Hanson has sought to ban the Muslim face covering on national security grounds, despite being unable to name a single safety incident linked to the burqa
