The EF fault indicates a problem with the fan speed or the signal the fan sends to the boiler’s PCB — the printed circuit board that controls ignition and combustion.
In simple terms, your boiler’s fan is responsible for pulling in fresh air and expelling burnt gases safely through the flue. If the boiler can’t confirm the fan is running correctly, it will shut down for safety.
You might notice your boiler trying to start up, clicking, and then cutting out again — that’s usually a sign the fan isn’t doing its job properly.

Several things can cause the EF fault code to appear:
• A faulty fan motor that’s seized or slow to start.
• Loose or damaged wiring between the fan and the PCB.
• A blocked or restricted flue, preventing the fan from spinning freely.
• A faulty tachometer on the fan not sending the right speed signal back to the board.
• Or, in some cases, a failing PCB that can’t read the signal even when the fan is fine.

4. Avoid repeated resets — if the boiler keeps locking out, it’s protecting you from unsafe operation.
