Lawman Guitars is Presenting a beauty today..
A beautiful and historically significant style of guitar. It’s a fantastic example of a Made in Germany, 1959 Hofner President Archtop Guitar.
All original and in incredible shape!
It comes with a 1950’s Soft shell Case that fits it perfectly.
For the Hofner Beatle Bass fans. Recognize the woods on this guitar. It is just like a giant Beatle Bass. Beautiful Spruce top and Flame maple back and sides.
You know what 1950’s Beatle Basses are going for…This guitar is really cool!
This guitar was purchased from a Pro Player here in Des Moines. He owns a lot of Hofner guitars and basses. This is one of his pristine beauties that I was happy to acquire for one of my lucky buyers.
It is all original from the Tuners, bridge, Tailpiece, and even the pick guard. Check those beautiful pics.
The only thing I could find was the 2 holes on each side of the neck where someone had installed a floating DeArmond Jazz pickup at one time. It is hard to see them, but they are there. See pic 9..
The action on this guitar is as good as it gets. No need now or in the future for a neck reset.
The original frets are still in marvelous shape. They are German large frets and no need for any replacements any time soon.
The sound of this guitar is distinctly German. Hard to describe but very distinctive. The flamey maple body is beautiful and the sound is very crisp. Not brittle, but crisp.
A finger picker would love this guitar. Very clear notes and chords emulate from this awesome arch top body.
For Hofner and Beatles fans out there…This is an example of George Harrison's first real guitar. He played a 1958 President. Just one year earlier than this one. Good enough for George…good enough for me.. See pic 17 of George with his guitar in the Quarry Men.
Here is some info I found on George's guitar pic…
"The Quarry Men at George’s brother Harry’s wedding reception at 25 Upton Green in Speke, Liverpool in December 1958. George is holding his 1958 Hofner President guitar. A welcome upgrade from his former guitar. The story is that George swapped this guitar to Ray Ennis (of the Swinging Blue Jeans), for a Hofner Club 40."
According to one of Mike McCartney’s books, this picture was taken at Auntie Gin’s son Ian’s wedding.
The shown case is from the 1950’s. I don’t believe it to be the correct case from Germany. It would have probably been a Selmer Hardshell
This case is vintage correct and it fits the guitar perfectly. All latches, handle and hinges are original and operating properly. Very good interior with the accessory box still here. The lid is, of course, held on with duct tape. Aren’t they all? LOL…
