P.F.A.S. Chemicals, The Upcoming Law & What This Means For You

Описание: The upcoming change in law surrounding P.F.A.S. chemicals can be a confusing topic. It's important to stay ahead of the misinformation, so we've made things simple with this easy-to-follow video.

Aqueous film forming foam, also known as AFFF, contain the forever chemicals, P.F.O.S. and P.F.O.A.

In 2014, there was a concerted effort to ban these forever chemicals as they are harmful to the environment. They don't bio-degrade and were getting into water courses. This meant that P.F.O.S. was banned and the remaining forever chemical, P.F.O.A. is now being banned from July 2025.

The good news is that OHEAP hasn’t used these chemicals in the manufacture of foam fire extinguishers for more than 10 years. So, the reality is that the July 2025 ban will not affect any OHEAP customers if you purchased or refilled foam extinguishers from us since 2014. The July 2025 ban is simply to ensure that it is no longer legal to manufacture or use these chemicals in the UK.

Currently, most foam extinguishers use a chemical called PFAS. PFAS IS NOT BANNED and OHEAP has been using this type of foam for over 10 years.

However, new legislation is being worked on, which could ban PFAS foam extinguishers in the coming years.

Luckily, OHEAP has prepared for this change early. We've developed a 3ltr environmentally-friendly water-based extinguisher. This 3ltr extinguisher has a 13A fire rating, which is the same as both the existing 6ltr foam AND the original 9ltr water extinguisher! In addition to this, the extinguisher is easier to manoeuvre than both our former units.
