This incredible Champagne comes from 9th-generation grower Nicolas Maillart on the Petite Montagne de Reims. It is 67% Pinot Noir, 26% Chardonnay, and 7% Meunier from the villages of Ecuiel, Villers-Allerand, and Bouzy. It is 70% barrel aged, 30% tank aged, and dosed at a very dry 3.5g/l. It has fabulous complexity and power, but also a pillowy lightness and a very fine bead. I find the nose to have a toasty quality reminiscent of panatone, and in the mouth it delivers lovely creamy flavors. This is a great find. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
