Animated bar chart race showing the total export volume (goods and services) by country from 1960 to 2030.
📊 WHAT THIS METRIC MEANS
Export volume measures the total value of goods and services a country sells to the rest of the world, in current US dollars. This includes both merchandise trade (physical goods) and commercial services (tourism, finance, IT, etc.). It does NOT adjust for inflation or purchasing power.
📂 DATA SOURCES
• World Bank — Exports of goods and services (NE.EXP.GNFS.CD), covering 190+ countries
• IMF World Economic Outlook — Projections for 2025-2030
• OECD — Merchandise trade statistics for cross-verification
• Bureau of Foreign Trade (Taiwan) — Taiwan merchandise + services estimates
🔢 HOW IT'S CALCULATED
Export volume = Total goods exported + Total services exported, in current USD. Values are in nominal (current) dollars — not inflation-adjusted. 2025-2030 values are trend-based projections using IMF growth rates and historical CAGR.
🌍 COUNTRY COVERAGE
55 countries selected: all major economies, top global exporters, and key emerging markets across every continent. Includes G7, G20, ASEAN leaders, Middle East oil exporters, and African economies.
⚠️ NOTE
• Russia data before 1991 represents the Russian Federation only (not full USSR)
• Taiwan is not in World Bank data — uses Bureau of Foreign Trade merchandise data + estimated services markup
• Ireland's high figures reflect multinational reexports through Irish-registered entities (real domestic exports are lower)
• 2025-2030 values are projections and may differ from actual outcomes
