This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Molecular Biologist Kyle Taylor talks about the formative experiences that led him to want to create a glowing plant.
Kyle Taylor was born and raised in the great state of Kansas, where his love of plants evolved out of an interest in the agriculture all around him. This led him to study biochemistry as an undergraduate and then go on to a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from Stanford University.
Not too bad for a rural country boy! Since a lot of people helped him along the way, he's driven to share his passion and excitement by making what he does more accessible. Kyle teaches Molecular Cell Biology at Biocurious, a Bay Area hackerspace for biotech, and is on a team that raised $484,000 for the Glowing Plant Kickstarter project.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
