This dive is to a depth of approximately 4,850 meters (3 miles) within the Murray Fracture Zone, one of the largest fracture zones crossing the Pacific. To date, the deepest regions of this feature have not been visually observed. Exploring features along the fracture zone, including fault scarps and areas of structural weakness, shed light on how fracture zones evolve over geologic time. The dive stars in a deep, flat area before moving to a steep section of wall in an attempt to visualize the fault face. Any marine life is documented along the way.
