Large number of crinoids as seen in the thumbnail can be seen in the middle third of the dive.
Dive 03 of the Papahānaumokuākea ROV and Mapping expedition explores the ridge arm and summit of an unnamed guyot (flat-topped seamount) northeast of Volador Seamount, starting at a depth of approximately 1,100 meters (3,610 feet) and moving upwards towards the guyot’s summit. To increase our understanding of habitats and biodiversity on this feature, we characterize communities of crinoids, sponges, corals, and other marine life along the rift arm and document transitions between habitat types as we make our way to the summit of the guyot. Once on the summit, we examine the sedimentary features of the guyot top and keep an eye out for fish that may congregate near the summit of this feature.
