Tip #5—Measuring Facial Features
Stuck on how to start painting facial features? Start by adding the ‘shape’ of shadows, as it will help you define other features of the face. Choosing the areas of shadow will help you form and place all the other facial features. Tip #6—Add a background
Backgrounds create a context for the entire image and thus it helps you to paint a more accurate image. i.e.How do the drapes in the background measure up to the person in front of them? By focusing on the background temporarily, it’ll help you to seek out what the main image may need in order to improve accuracy.

Tip #7—Brighten/Darken
Periodically adding highlights and lowlights helps you shape up the face that you’re painting. Paying attention to this detail adds depth and three-dimensionality to your work over time.

Tip #8—Texturize
Add textures and highlights and low lights to clothing, accessories, hair, and background. Work around the image instead of just in one area in order to improve the accuracy of the image. To blend facial features or anything else, you can paint as usual and then soften your brush strokes immediately afterward with a clean, dry brush. This will smooth out the paint, help to blend things and create a smooth appearance.
