SO full of flavour and goodness, easy to grow, and they thrive in the UK. Why import blueberries grown in Chile, when you could have a superior berry grown in your own garden?
Blackcurrants are a bit fiddly to pick - not as obliging as redcurrants - so I keep an old stool at my allotment so that I can perch on it and work my way round the bushes. Mine actually have a real bindweed problem - i think I accidentally introduced it with some manure I spread (disaster), and the foul plant is doing its best to strangle my beloved blackcurrants. So this coming Autumn, I am going to have to dig them all out and start again in a different spot. Luckily, they root easily from hardwood cuttings taken in Autumn, so this will be a difficult, but not expensive job.
