Today on our 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan we're going to be taking a look at and installing the T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number 118675. When you're ready to use your trailer plug you just take it out of your side pocket here and lay it over top of our sill plate, making sure to keep it away from the latch part of it. We can close our door down on top of it and plug it into our trailer. When you're all done you'll open it back up and fold it away. You just take your excess, take your weather proof cap, put it around the outside, plug it up and set it in here until we're ready to use it again. It's all completely kept away from the elements. Here's what our kit's going to consist of.
We're going to have our module light box, our 4 flat connector with our weather tight cover. We're going to have a roll of wire that's going to go from our module light box up into the battery, connecting to our fuse holder. We're going to have some butt connectors and a fuse, 2 sided tape to attach our module light and some zip ties. What you're going to get with this module light box, this is going to isolate your trailer from your factory wiring. Therefore, if you had a back feed or a short in your trailer it's not going to affect the wiring on your vehicle and it's going to protect the delicate circuits that are in your vehicle.
Now we'll show you how we installed it. Our first step is going to be remove our taillights on both sides. To access the bolts we're going to need to pop off this black trim panel here that covers up the bolts. We're going to take a trim tool, or you can use a small flat bladed screwdriver. You want to just kind of get it in between. You're going to gently pry it out.
Now to release these clips on the back side to gain access to the screws. We'll take a T25 torques bit and we'll take out these 2 screws. We'll take a plastic panel tool, let's go to the backside here and release the clip it slides into here on the back here. We're going to need to unplug this back of the light, we're going to slide out this red clip, that's our lock. We can push down on this black tab here and that releases the lock out of the light.
We'll repeat this for the other side. Now we're going to need to remove the cover for the spare tire, or you can just take it out; make it a lot easier. Dissemble this, set it to the side. We're going to need to remove our sill plate here. There's going to be some clips . 2 clips on either side; you need to pry the centers out and the clip will release. You can use a small screwdriver or a panel tool just to get behind it, they're a little difficult, and just pop the centers out. Now we can take our sill plate off. Just going to kind of pull it back. We'll release it from the clips and we'll set that aside. Now we're going to go to the passenger side here. We're going to take out this little pocket, the door. Take our module box, we'll just set it in place over here. We're going to take our green wire and route it up through the inside. We're going to come out through the taillight. Then we'll take our factory wire and we'll plug it into our T-connector. You'll hear it snap and we'll apply the lock, let us know that it's secure. Now we're going to need to get our yellow wire, route it down behind. We're going to route that over to the driver's side. We're going to need to get it behind our panel here and we're going to come out through our taillight as well on this side. We went ahead and took out a T20 screw out of this corner and pulled our panel back. Taking a piece of airline tubing and pushed it in behind and brought it out through the panel. We're going to tape our wiring harness to it and we're going to pull it up and out the hole. It's a good idea to keep it as compact as you can, so tape it close to there. Take our wire and once we have our wire out we can take all the tape off. We'll take our factory plug and we'll plug it into the female side of our T1 connector. Listen for that snap and we'll push down our red lock pin, and we'll be ready to put our taillights back in. We went ahead and snapped our panel back into place and put that 1 screw in. Put our door back on. I went ahead and just took a little bit of packing tape, or you can use electrical tape, just to tape our wire up out of the way so we can reinstall our sill plate. You just want to keep it held up ou
