The “Momonga” which is Japanese for flying squirrel is a jacket / cape steeped in centuries of history. Most likely coming from China the jacket was used and still is used as a protective final layer to be worn above the Kimono ensemble in inclement weather. Ofcourse the garment is so simple with a plain rectangle being sewn with 2 short seams and then a “hem” / “collar” that it would have existed without record in all levels of society and would have been patched together from remnants of still usable fabrics to create coverage. You can use this as inspiration for your project as you progress with your sewing and create something truly spectacular with methods from quilting to shashiko to create your own unique textile and something only you have.
