We went all out on this $120,000 Model X Plaid with Déjà Vu Colorshift (+Blue Booster) and a durable Satin Clearcoat.
Thanks to Mike and Latoya for coming up from Orlando to get their car done and check out the process.

Masking was easier than I anticipated with the only real issue being the gaskets around the glass roof and windows. We usually use J Tape to pull the gasket back and allow our paint to grip underneath but we were all out. Luckily I picked up a few tricks in the decade+ that I have been spraying. Playing cards and some tape can work in a pinch. Since the whole roof is glass, we just used some plazmask to make things easy.
The pearl we are using is white in powder form so a black base is going to bring out the most color. We put about 2 gallons of black Spherical Basecoat down with the compressor, HVLP, and a 1.7mm tip. Satin Clearcoat will not stick to AirWrap so we have to use a Raail Spherical Base.
Mike came to me with a color in mind that was currently unavailable in vinyl. I was pretty confident I could make it out of products I already have. For this color I used Déjà Vu Colorshift pearl + Blue Booster sprayed in un-tinted Spherical Basecoat. The Booster brings out the specified color and also makes spraying pearls so much easier. I honestly suggest picking one up even if its just our new Black Booster when spraying pearls. Helps avoid stripes and get even color coverage.
Next up is the Satin Clearcoat. This is a durable, scratch resistant, gas resistant coating with a satin finish. Really helps the liquid wrap last and prevent damage. I changed guns to a clean HVLP and a 1.3mm tip size and laid down 2 medium-wet coats.
I Knew I could get an even smoother finish so I pulled out the DA sander, some 1000 grit sandpaper, and went around the whole car removing defects and orange peel. A quick wipe down with water and denatured alcohol then another wet coat of Satin Clear. Now the finish is super smooth and we probably have 5 gallons total of product on the car.
After about 2 hours we unmask and it's ready to go. This coating is car wash safe, pressure wash safe, and you can spray wax it too. All of the products used are listed below and on our site drpigment.com
