In this reflection on the Sermon on the Mount, we wrestle with whether the Golden Rule is the pinnacle of spiritual wisdom… or simply the starting line.

Is it the shining dome of the cathedral?

Or is it the concrete foundation beneath it?

Jesus says the Golden Rule “sums up the Law and the Prophets.” That’s not decorative language. That’s structural language. It’s not the stretch goal of faith. It’s the baseline minimum.

And maybe that’s exactly the problem.

We keep treating the bare minimum like it’s advanced spirituality.

This sermon explores:
• Why the Golden Rule might feel underwhelming
• Why that reaction reveals something about us
• How small, ordinary acts form the foundation of justice
• Why revolutions begin with knocking on your neighbor’s door

If we want transformation, it starts with fundamentals.

Concrete first. Then cathedral.
