Strange rock linked to witchcraft and druids.

Описание: Upon Keighley moor lies The Hitching stone, sticking out like a sore thumb on this otherwise fairly featureless moor.
This rock is supposedly the biggest boulder in Yorkshire and lies at the meeting point of five boundaries it was once used as the starting point for a horse race until the late 1800s
Like The Great Stone of Four Stones it is a glacial erratic transported here from far a field by the ice sheets of the ice age and left behind when the ice retreated. And like the Great stone the hitching stone has its fair share of graffiti of ranging ages.
Legend has it that this hole was made by a witch, who sick of having the rock outside her house pushed her broomstick or wand into it and threw it from Ilkley moor across the valley to where it lies on Keighley moor
here about halfway up the west side of the hitching stone is this strange recess, its thought that it was used by druids, and it is actually named the druids or priests chairs, it faces towards Pendle hill and probably the equinox.
Inside the druid’s chair is some graffiti and the continuation of the witches shaft that was visible from below, not really formed by a witches magic but by a fossilised tree. The softer fossilised stone has eroded away to leave just its impression through this glacial erratic
Like the Great stone, which is about 25 miles away to the northwest as the crow flies the hitching stone must surely have been known to our ancestors and was probably used as a meeting point as well as whatever the druids may have used it for. What do you think?
Time has well weathered this large boulder, adding the fissures and lumps and dimples along the way.
I think the skull was a bad omen, because on the way back to the car I ended up almost waist deep in a very cold and wet bog.
