You've got to love Lucie – especially her cute whistle.
The Type IV vertical boiler steam locomotive is shown hosting brake van rides at Levisham Station on the second day of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway's annual Steam Gala on Friday 26 September 2025.
Lucie was built by John Cockerill in 1890 and started life working for the East Brussels Tram company.
Numbered 8, she hauled funeral trains to Brussels Cemetery in Evere, as well as normal passenger services and possibly freight too.
Between 1890 and 1894, Queen Victoria requested that the remains of 16 British officers from the Battle of Waterloo were moved to a mausoleum at the cemetery.
There's a good chance that Lucie helped to take them to their final resting place.
After the track was changed to metre gauge, Lucie was sold to a mining company called Vieille Montage.
She operated at a mine in Angleur, Liege, and it's here that she was given the name Lucie.
She was later moved to a sugar factory and an industrial supplies company before heading to the UK in 1987.
Lucie was restored and ran at Peak Rail at Buxton, Derbyshire, and then Middleton Railway in Leeds before moving to the NYMR.
