The five Shiva temples related to the five elements of nature are known as the Pancha Bhoota Sthalams. "Pancha" means five, "Bhoota" means elements, and "Sthala" means place or temple. These temples are located in South India, with four in Tamil Nadu and one in Andhra Pradesh. Each temple represents one of the five elements and is home to a Shiva Lingam that is said to embody that element.

Here are the five temples and the elements they represent:

🕉️ Earth (Prithvi): Ekambareswarar Temple in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The Shiva Lingam here is made of sand, symbolizing the element of Earth.

🕉️ Water (Appu/Jalam): Jambukeswarar Temple in Thiruvanaikaval (near Trichy), Tamil Nadu. The sanctum sanctorum has an underground water stream, and the Lingam is constantly submerged in water, representing the element of Water.

🕉️ Fire (Agni): Arunachaleswarar Temple in Thiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. Lord Shiva is worshiped here in the form of a massive column of fire, whose top and bottom could not be found by Brahma and Vishnu, respectively.

🕉️ Air (Vayu): Srikalahasteeswara Temple in Srikalahasti, Andhra Pradesh. The Lingam here is said to represent the element of Air, and the flame of a lamp in the sanctum is said to flicker despite no apparent air movement.

🕉️ Ether/Space (Akasha): Thillai Nataraja Temple in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. In this temple, Shiva is worshiped as Nataraja, the cosmic dancer. The element of Ether or Space is represented by an empty space in the sanctum, signifying the formless nature of God.
